A 65-year-old woman was killed when a portion of an old house collapsed and fell on her in Pheel Khana area in Kanpur, police said on Wednesday. Kalyani Devi, wife of a retired bank employee and resident of General Ganj, was passing from under the dilapidated house in Sirki locality late on Tuesday night when a portion fell on her and she was buried under the debris, a police spokesperson said.
The house owned by one Hanuman Agrahi was being demolished when the incident took place following which the builder and the labourers working there fled, the spokesperson said. Locals managed to pull out the victim and took her to a hospital where she was declared brought dead, police said. Search is on to nab the absconders, they said, adding that the house-owner is being interrogated.
