The new Rs 500 and Rs 2,000 notes will bear the signature of the new RBI governor Urjit R Patel.
Along with his surprise announcement of demonetisation of old Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes Prime Minister Narendra Modi also said that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) would shortly issue new Rs 500 and Rs 2,000 denomination banknotes.
The new Rs 2,000 banknotes will be magenta in colour and will be larger than the new Rs 500 notes at 66mm x 166mm. On the reverse of the new Rs 2,000 note is a motif of Mangalyaan, India's first venture into interplanetary space.
