Exit polls on two other TV news channels predicted a majority for the Akali Dal-BJP combine in Punjab.

New Delhi: While the CNN-IBN-Hindustan Times Exit Poll predicted a dead heat in the Punjab Assembly elections, two other news channels predicted a majority for the Akali Dal-BJP combine.

Surveys conducted by Star News and NDTV gave a simple majority to the Akali Dal-BJP alliance with similar projections centering around 60 and 50 seats to Akali Dal-BJP and the Congress respectively.

The survey conducted by AC Nielson for Star News gave 60 seats to BJP-SAD(Badal) combine, 48 to the Congress and seven seats to other parties and independent candidates out of the 115 constituencies that went to poll out of a total 117 seats.

NDTV 24x7 came out with almost similar projections, giving between 55 to 65 seats to Akali Dal-BJP combine and between 45 to 55 seats to the Congress.

NDTV claimed it surveyed 47,610 voters across 75 seats for its exit poll. It gave larger share to other parties at 13 per cent, while BSP is projected to get a 5 per cent vote share.

The CNN-IBN-Hindustan Times Exit Poll predicted 50 to 60 seats to both Akali Dal-BJP and Congress with identical vote share of 41 per cent each.

In the Star News survey, the vote share puts the Congress quite behind the Akali Dal-BJP combine with 37 and 41 per cent respectively. Other parties/independent candidates are predicted to pull as much as 22 per cent of the voters.

Star News claimed about 13,000 people were questioned across 50 constituencies in the state during the survey.
