Alagiri visits jailed aides, says case foisted

TIRUNELVELI: Union Minister and DMK south zone organising secretary, M K Alagiri, met his aides at Palayamkottai Central Prison on Wednesday.In connection with a land grabbing case filed at Madurai, four DMK functionaries — Madurai Urban District Secretary G Thalapathi, ‘Pootu’ Suresh, Kodi Chandrasekaran and Krishnapandi, were arrested on Tuesday and lodged at the Palayamkottai Central Prison.On Wednesday, Alagiri came to the prison at around 10.50 am and met them. The meeting lasted for around 20 minutes. Coming out from the prison, Alagiri said he had come to meet his friends. Quoting Thalapathy, Alagiri said that the case was foisted against them. MLAs I Periyasamy, Anitha Radhakrishnan and T P M Mohideen Khan, party Tirunelveli District Secretary Karuppasamipandian, City Mayor A L Subramanian, Durai and Suba Seetharaman accompanied him to the prison.Meets Kodai civic chiefAlagiri on Wednesday also visited the Madurai Central Prison and met a party functionary who was lodged there. On reaching the prison entrance he instructed his escorts to stay back stating that he was not on an official visit, but for a party work.He met Kodaikanal Municipality Chairman Mohammed Ibrahim. Despite the presence of scribes and lensmen near the prison in large numbers, Alagiri preferred to keep mum.
