Hyderabad: The on-going battle over Telangana is likely to severely affect the world's second richest temple Tirupati from Wednesday. The indefinite bandh across Seemandhra region has already been causing a lot of inconvenience to the devotees visiting the temple for the past three weeks. Andhra Pradesh state run buses have been off roads for the past two weeks and the pilgrims are depending either on train or on private vehicles to reach the hill town.
The Seemandhra Joint Action Committee (JAC), which is spearheading the anti-Telangana protests, has now decided to prevent all private vehicles from entering Tirupati as a part of its 48 hour bandh. The JAC has warned that it won't even allow private vehicles to leave Tirupati on Wednesday and Thursday.
More than 50 per cent of the pilgrims use private vehicles to visit Tirupati. The rest use public transport.
According to Tirumala-Tirupati Devasthanam Board (TTD Board) sources there has already been a steep drop of nearly 40 per cent in the number of pilgrims visiting Tirupati. On an average 1 lakh people visit the temple every day.
