A distressed father from Assam identified his son was in the United Liberation Front of Assam Independence (ULFA (I)) camp after seeing him in a video on TV and social media. Abhilesh Bora, hailing from Khowang in Dibrugarh district, had been missing since 2022.
The father of an infant baby, Abhilesh had left his family two years ago and his whereabouts were not known. A few days back, his father, Ucchakamal Bora, a retired teacher of No. 2 Charaibahi village in Khowang, saw a video on television, and confirmed that their missing son was in Myanmar, having joined the ULFA(I).
Recently, Magh Bihu was celebrated in Assam as well as by the ULFA(I) camp in Myanmar.
News18 Assam had received a video sent from the ULFA (I) camp, where cadres of the militant group were seen preparing for Magh Bihu, collecting vegetables from the farm, making PITHAs etc.
In the morning of the Bihu day, all cadres prayed in front of MEJI which was lighted by the ULFA(I) chief Paresh Barua. Later, cadres participated in singing and dancing as part of Bihu celebrations.
The video of the celebrations in the ULFA(I) camp was telecast on TV and shared on social media.
After watching the videos, a shocked Ucchakamal Bora said, “We had a doubt, after he went missing some of his friends came to us and said that Abhilesh might join the ULFA(I). They noted then that Abhilesh had said this many times.”
But Uccha Kamal Bora did not believe them, thinking the father of a two-year-old boy could not just leave his family. Abilesh’s family has been waiting for his return for two years.
When his father saw him in the video on January 15, he broke down. He had never thought that someday his son would stand against the government.
Explaining how he identified his son in the video, Ucchakamal Bora said, “First we heard the Bihu song and found the voice very familiar. Later, I saw him dancing.”
After seeing his son in the video, Bora immediately informed the police and requested them to bring him from the ULFA(I) camp.
Sending a message to his son, Ucchakamal Bora said, “My son, please come back home. All of us are waiting for your return. Think about your son and your wife. They are starving for your love. ”
Appealing to ULFA(I) chief Paresh Barua, he said, “Please return home. Talk to the government. Be positive and leave this path of militancy.”
