New Delhi: An astrologer in Tamil Nadu landed up in the court for allegedly predicting “long-life” for a dead man. Sivasamy, who makes astrological prediction, was summoned by a Madurai court, after it received a cheating complaint by one local Gopalakrishnan.

The ancient palm leave manuscripts (believed to be written by a Tamil saint ‘Agasthiyar’) are used by astrologers to forecasts a person’s future on the basis of his thumb impression.

The petitioner—Gopalakrishnan said he had recently called Sivasamy to give him his thumb impression and get a quick prediction. In order to test if the astrologers’ skills were real or not, he gave thumb impression of dead person to him, a person who had died way back in 2003. The astrologer gave in writing that the person, whose thumb impression was given, would have a long life.

Seeking action against the astrologer, Gopalakrishnan in his complaint said he did not want another person to be cheated like him.

Judicial Magistrate Neelavathy observed the offense as that of cheating and posted it to a later date for hearing.
