KOCHI: Kochi is all set to become the first city with automated transport system in the country. District Collector P I Sheik Pareeth said that a concrete plan in this regard will be drawn up by January.The system is intended to help those who come to the city in vehicles. The activated general packet radio service (GPRS) system will give instructions to the newcomers to the city. An outlay of Rs 20 lakh has been earmarked for the purpose.Pareeth said that the district administration is planning to implement the project with suitable commercial and industrial participation. “Three companies have expressed their interest to finance the project. A suitable decision will be taken after analysing all the aspects of the proposal,” said Pareeth. As the first phase, the automated transport system will be implemented in ten cities. “We are planning to implement the project in Kochi before Bangalore, which is also making efforts to implement the system," he said.
