CHENNAI: Jammi Pharmaceuticals and Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Ayurveda College and Hospital (SJSACH) on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to conduct joint research and trials for the products of the drug company that manufactures Ayurvedic medicine. The MoU was signed by Dr KS Jayashree, Dean and Principal, SJSACH and Dr Jammi Venkataramana, Director, Jammi Pharmaceuticals. Jammi Pharmaceuticals' flagship brand 'Liver Cure,' will first be studied and revalidated by Jayendra College for its use and efficacy in areas other than its traditional indication of liver dysfunction. Speaking to reporters, Dr R Jagannathan, Corporate Advisor, said the brand 'Liver Cure' alone had cured several lakh patients all over the country for liver ailments including Hepatitis and Cirrhosis. “The production unit in Chennai has been awarded the GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) Certification. Now, the company will take Ayurvedic products to more people by conducting trials using clinical protocols in line with modern requirements," he added.Dr KS Jayashree said the institution, which is a part of the Kanchipuram-based Sri Chandrasekerandra Vishwa Mahavidyalaya, was keen to bring out new drugs to cater to the common man. “The usefulness and efficacy of Ayurveda will be established yet again when more drugs are found to treat the burgeoning health disorders," she said.Dr Narasimham V Jammi and Dr Jayashree said 110 subjects would be enrolled for the first trial. “It is likely to take about 6-9 months for the trial to be complete. First, we intend evaluating the usefulness of Liver Cure for indications that have not been tried before.”
