BANGALORE: Two-month-old Manju, who was suffering from a complex congenital heart defect, underwent a heart procedure in Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research on Sunday. Manju’s was the most complex case and the youngest case among the total 30 pediatric cases of congenital and structural heart diseases who were admitted to the Jayadeva institution. All these children with heart holes and cardiac disorders underwent procedures during the two-day ‘National Live Workshop on Congenital and Structural Heart Diseases’ at the institute. Manju, who was brought to the hospital from Chikmagalur was born with a structural heart condition called Pulmonary Atresia with Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) generally known as a hole in the heart. One of Manju’s heart’s four valves called the pulmonary valve, had not formed properly, that is why the blood supply to his lungs was reduced. He underwent the stent procedure to improve blood supply.Speaking to The New Indian Express, Director of Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research Dr C N Manjunath said that the procedure was successful and Manju is expected to be discharged from the hospital on Wednesday. Meanwhile, all the 30 cases admitted there were operated during the live workshop, 25 were operated for heart holes whereas five underwent Balloon Mitral Valvuloplast .Dr Manjunath also said that of the 30 cases, 25 children will be discharged from the hospital on Wednesday.
