SALEPUR: UCO Bank’s Orti branch manager Bipin Bihari Nayak was assaulted and robbed of Rs 10 lakh on Monday.Sources said Nayak was bringing the money from the Bajrakabati branch of the bank in Cuttack to Orti branch in a four-wheeler when four miscreants intercepted his vehicle near Katarapada.The miscreants first overpowered vehicle driver Pravat Rout and tied him up at gun-point. They then drove the vehicle towards Dhola Sahi, a village under Sukerpara gram panchayat. When Nayak tried to resist, they assaulted him with a ‘bhujali’ and snatched away the money bag. They then decamped with the booty in a car without a number plate.Nayak and the driver were later rescued by locals. The miscreants left behind the ‘bhujali’ and a bag containing ropes and some black tapes.The injured bank manager was first admitted to Nischintakoili community health centre and then shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack. A case has been registered with the Salepur police.
