Behind the wheel, retro style

The 10th edition of the annual Duchess Car Rally was held yesterday and it witnessed an enthusiastic participation from the ladies, and for the first time, a few all male teams as well. While Kollywood stars are usually known to be tardy, actors Vivekh and Prashanth flagged off the first car from the Savera Hotel at 9am with no delays.To add a touch of zing to the morning, participants sported 70s style retro attire, complete with flowered shirts, polka dots and brightly coloured headbands. Also spotted behind the wheel were a couple of Bob Marley inspired hairdos, making the rounds.With 62 cars en route to AAVISA — IVR Hotel and Resorts, cheered on by a ‘red brigade’ of pom pom waving cheerleaders, this early Sunday morning was high on energy. The rally, run by the Duchess Club and organised by the Madras Motor Sports Club (MMSC) had four categories — Expert, Regular, Novice and Duchess.This year was also privy to its fair share of celebrities and socialites as well, including RJ Dheena, Nina Reddy, Shylaja Chetlur and Secretary of the MMSC, Pramod Kumar.
