BELGAUM: Belgaum police on Tuesday registered a criminal case against Belgaum South BJP MLA Abhay Patil for allegedly provoking people, leading to clashes.
The police have also arrested a few of his close associates, who were allegedly involved in the clashes.Clashes broke out at Vishnu Galli of Vadgaon in the late hours of Monday and MLA Patil and Belgaum Rural MLA Sanjay Patil were present at the spot at that time.
The first information report (FIR) filed by Shahapur police station says Patil had instigated his supporters to attack people belonging to a particular community and egged the miscreants to clash. The FIR said Patil used intemperate language against a particular community. The FIR also alleged that following Patil's instigation, his followers broke open houses and beat up people.The FIR stated that Patil was accompanied by governmentnominated corporators - Kedar Ghasari and Deepak Jamkhandi - and other supporters, including Swaroop Kalkundri, Pundalik Chavan, Kallappa Shahapurkar, Subhash Anandache, Nitin Tapadia and Girish Damadi.
