BHUBANESWAR: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has started distribution of certificates and stipends under the Swarna Jayanti Sahari Rozgar Yojana (SJSRY) scheme for the financial year 2010-11. The beneficiaries of the SJSRY programme are the urban poor of the city. The major focus of the programme is to uplift the youth who fall under the BPL category by providing vocational skills.This year, the certificates for the training programme conducted by the Institute for Entrepreneurship Development (IED) will be distributed. IED comes directly under the State government and is imparting training under the Skill Training for Employment Promotion Amongst Urban Poor (STEP-UP) scheme.“More than 2,300 students will receive the certificates and the stipend this year. The students get Rs 300 per month for the training they receive,” BMC’s slum improvement officer Srimanta Mishra said.This programme is aimed at making the urban poor self-sufficient and enable them to get employment. Any youth under the BPL category can apply for training under the SJSRY programme.The SJSRY programme has various kinds of training schemes such as the urban self-employment programme, urban women self-help programme and urban wage employment programme. They train the students in liquid soap making, mushroom cultivation, candle making, soft toys and leaf plate creation. The kind of training programmes to be provided are decided by the State Government.The Government puts up advertisements for promoting the training programme every year to attract more youth under the BPL category to take part in various schemes.The certificates will be given to the pass-outs of the training programme by the BMC officials. Arrangements have been made for certificate distribution across every ward. The corporators of 60 wards of the city will be supervising the distribution of certificates and stipend. The certificate distribution will continue till the first week of April.
