Order suspending R K Anand and I U Khan revoked after TV channel refuses to share raw footage of ‘sting operation’.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court Bar Association on Tuesday revoked its order suspending senior lawyers R K Anand and I U Khan, who were accused of colluding with a suspect in the BMW hit-and-run case.

Anand is the defence lawyer of businessman Sanjeev Nanda, grandson of a former Navy chief, in the case. Khan was with the prosecution. Nanda is accused of crushing six people with his BMW in Delhi in 1999 and later trying to tamper with the evidence.

A TV channel, which on May 30 showed the two lawyers trying to persuade a witness to retract his statement, refused to submit raw footage of the sting to a panel set up by the Bar.

The association suspended the lawyers on June 4, came two days after Bar Council of Delhi also issued show-cause notices to them.

The Delhi Police dropped Khan as public prosecutor in the case after the channel’s report. He has denied any wrongdoing, saying: "I have not done anything wrong, morally, socially or legally which will enable them to initiate any action against me."

Anand too refuted all allegations against him and said his slate was clear. "I have nothing to hide. I am not involved in any of this. The way the channel has shown all this is out of context," he said.
