CHENNAI: An 18-month-old boy drowned in a septic tank at Thirumullaivoyal on Monday evening.Sources said the victim L Nitin was frolicking with his mother Kanchana. The child’s father Loganathan (30), a lorry driver, had left for work earlier in the day. The couple lived on MGR Street in Saraswathi Nagar.Around 5 pm, Kanchana left her son alone and went up the terrace to collect the clothes that she had hanged out for drying. On coming down, she noticed that the child was nowhere to be seen. She looked for him everywhere with the help of neighbours. Around 7.30 pm, she and husband searched for him in the 10-foot-deep septic tank on the street near her house. They stirred the dark waters with a wooden piece and were shocked when his body floated to the surface.The Tirumullaivoyal police registered a case and sent the body to Kilpauk medical college hospital for autopsy.
