Islamabad: Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti's body was dug out from his demolished cave hideout in Balochistan. His funeral is expected to take place at his ancestral home Dera Bugti later on Friday.

Bugti's body was in an advanced stage of decay as it was badly crushed under a big boulder. The operation to retrieve his body was launched after protests in Balochistan and parts of Karachi.

Six days after he was killed in an Army operation, the body was dug out late on Thursday night from his demolished cave hideout in Balochistan. The body was found pinned under a boulder inside his hideout. It was dug out by the troops, a senior military official said.

"The body is in an advanced stage of decay as it had been badly crushed under a big boulder," military spokesman Maj Gen Shaukat Sultan said.

Army engineers and allied officials were busy removing debris of the cave to retrieve other bodies buried along with Bugti's in an Army operation on August 26. Five helicopters ferried equipment to excavate the cave, which collapsed in an explosion when armymen were entering it to negotiate with Bugti.

The operation to retrieve Bugti's body was launched as protests continued to rock Balochistan and parts of Karachi over his killing and the government's failure to hand over the body.

His family and supporters have already held funeral prayers without his body at Quetta two days ago amid heavy violence.
