Cameras to be installed to nab waste dumpers

The corporation will install cameras in various parts of the city to monitor the unauthorised disposal of waste.

Mayor Tony Chammany will inaugurate the programme on Saturday at the Edappally Muttar Junction.

“The corporation has already banned unauthorised waste disposal in the city.

But there are a number of cases where persons illegally throw away plastic bags along the road side causing immense inconvenience to commuters and residents.

“In order to monitor this, the corporation has taken up this project worth lakhs of rupees,” corporation health standing committee chairman  T K Ashraf said.

 In November last year a Division Bench of the Kerala High Court had prohibited dumping of waste in plastic carry bags or bags made of  non-biodegradable materials in public places and ordered the police to prosecute those who violate the order.
