Bus and train services between Mysore and Bangalore were affected owing to the Cauvery water protests.
Five trains coming from Bangalore to Mysore were halted near Maddur station. The Chamundi Express, which left Mysore at 6.45 am had to wait for nine hours with the passengers. An average of 60,000 passengers who commute between Mysore and Bangalore daily were stranded. The SWR saw a revenue loss of Rs 10 lakh due to the stoppages.
The Myladurai Express which departed at 6 am to Bangalore and finally arrived at Mysore at 4.50 pm.
The five trains that were halted near Maddur were the Myladurai Express, Tuticorin Express, Rajya Rani Express, Yeshwantpur to Mysore Express and Tiripathi Fast Passenger.
The Chamundi Express which departed at 6.45 am from Mysore was stopped near Mandya. Following this, the Tippu Express was not given the green signal from Mysore station.
Railway authorities did not let the Shatabdi Express depart from Bangalore towards Mysore. Out of 486 buses operating from Mysore division daily, only one bus every half an hour plied from Mysore to Bangalore. Buses were diverted towards Malavalli to reach Bangalore via Halagur, Sathnur, Kanakapura, Banashankari and Bangalore.
As a handful of buses were operating, the KSRTC recorded only 30 per cent revenue on Monday. Bus Services Stopped As a precautionary measure, the authorities on Monday decided not to allow buses to Tamil Nadu and those from across the border into the state.
Buses from both states plied upto the borders - Punajanuru check post, check posts on Bandipur-Ooty Road, Palgar gate and returned to their states.
