New Delhi: The CBI has filed its preliminary report on Thursday on the incident of police firing in Nandigram on March 14, in which 14 people were killed.

The Calcutta High Court has now asked the state government to file an affidavit in the case. The state attorney has sought two days' time file its reply. The next hearing in the case is on March 26.

The state police had earlier arrested 10 people in connection with the case. The FIR had said they were CP-M workers and were in touch with local party leaders. Police had also recovered some arms from them.

CBI lawyer Ranjan Roy submitted the report before the division bench headed by Chief Justice Surinder Singh Nijjhar.

UNI quoted Nijjhar saying that he would look into the report and take a decision in the next judicial procedure.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Court taking up the matter suo motu had directed CBI to probe into the Nandigram massacre and file report within seven days.

The West Bengal government had asked for more time to file its affidavit on the matter.

The High Court had asked the CBI to move in to Nandigram at the earliest and directed it to complete its enquiry and place a report before the court at the earliest.

An NGO, Empathy-05, also moved a PIL before the court claiming that the Bhumi Ucched Pratirodh Committee members had driven many people owing allegiance to CPI-M out of Nandigram and adjoining areas since January.
