Ahmedabad: After the nod from the Gujarat High Court, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took former Gujarat Home minister Amit Shah into custody on Saturday in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case.
The CBI sleuths arrived at the Sabarmati jail here early in the morning with a team of doctors, who conducted a routine medical check up of Shah before he could be taken in for the remand.
On Friday the HC had remanded Shah for two-day CBI custody along with rejecting his plea for videography during questioning. While Shah's lawyers Mahesh Jethmalani had sought videography of the BJP leader's interrogation, the CBI argued that it would be a waste of time.
The lawyer's plea seeking a stay on the order to approach a higher court was also rejected. The CBI chargesheet implicates Amit Shah extensively in the planning, execution and cover-up of the Sohrabuddin fake encounter killings.
