PALAKKAD: The CBI team led by Deputy SP Ravindranathan Nair collected evidence from DySP (Vigilance) Safiullah Saeed and questioned Cusaba police station SI Kumaran on Thursday in connection with the death of Malabar Cements Limited (MCL) former company secretary V Sasindran.Sasindran and his two sons, Vivek, 10, and Vyas, 8, were found hanging in their house at Kurudikad, near Kanjikode, on January 24. DySP Safiullah Saeed who had been investigating the graft cases in the MCL is reported to have said that Sasindran had stated to him that initially a controversial businessman in Palakkad used to threaten him if he deposed against him in the corruption cases. Later, it was the top officials of the MCL who began to intimidate and harass Sasindran if he did not depose in favour of the persons involved in the various corruption cases. Even the persons looking after the legal matters of MCL wanted Sasindran to toe the line of the management. Sasindran, being the company secretary of MCL, was privy to a lot of information and had first-hand knowledge of the irregularities going on inside the company. The Vigilance had charge-sheeted several officials and businessmen in four cases of corruption and Sasindran was an important witness among them, DySP Safiullah Saeed is reported to have said, according to CBI sources. They said the police official had also deposed how the then LDF Government had gone out of the way to protect the management of MCL. He also reportedly stated that Sasindran was later forced by the management of the MCL to resign from the post of company secretary by repeatedly issuing show cause notices under flimsy pretexts.
