KOCHI: CPM Onchiyam area secretary C H Asokan and area committee member K K Krishnan, accused in the T P Chandrasekharan murder case, submitted before the Kerala High Court on Monday that it was not a political murder but committed at the instance of an “unidentified businessman” who has “close links with the Congress party”. According to the petitioners, who filed their bail applications before the court,  the police had initially found that the murder was committed due to personal vengeance.“Chandrasekharan was in the forefront of a protest against setting up  a drinking water bottling plant at Azhiyoor by an unidentified businessman. The big budget project was dropped due to the mass agitation and the  businessman was hostile towards Chandrasekharan,” the petitioners said. After verifying the case diary and in consultation with the Special Investigation Team, DGP Jacob Punnoose had stated that it  was not a political murder. However, Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan interfered at this stage and investigating officer DySP Josy Cherian was removed from the charge of the case, the petitioners said. Counsel for the petitioners M K Damodaran said  they have been taken into custody illegally without any evidence.“The present investigating officer is biased and is conducting the probe according to the wishes  of the Home Minister,” the petitioners said. They also criticised the media alleging that it was propagating wrong news against them.
