PCC president Botcha Satyanarayana said that there was no need for the Congress to take a stand on the issue of bifurcation of the state.
“Firstly, all parties have to spell out their stand. Once it is done, the Congress, which is the biggest party and which is in power, would take a call on what stand it should take before arriving at a decision,” he said.
Speaking to mediapersons at Gandhi Bhavan here on Tuesday, the CPC chief said that Union home minister Suhil Kumar Shinde did not say that the Centre was against a Telangana state.
Shinde only said that experience had shown that in smaller states there were problems on law and order front.
But he did not say it would happen if Telangana is created nor did he say it would be a stumbling block for formation of a Telangana state.
“He did not say anything that suggested that the UPA was against Telangana,” Satyanarayana said.
He took exception to Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu’s latest utterances on making the party’s stand clear on the Telangana issue.
“If the Telanagna state had so far not been formed, it is because of Naidu. He did not say he was against it or for it,” Botcha said and accused him of taking decisions only keeping in mind his political interest rather than doing some service to the people.
If Naidu was saying that he would come to power in 2014 elections, it was only intended to keep the party leaders and workers stay with the party but not with the conviction that he would win the elections.
Botcha said there was no threat to the Congress from any quarter.
“Several leaders had bragged that they would pull down the Congress but all of them had to bite the dust.” he said in an oblique reference to Chiranjeevi merging his PRP with the Congress.
Botcha dismissed as baseless the allegations that Congress leaders attended the book release function.
