CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has directed the director of town and country planning and the member-secretary of the CMDA to consider a plea from Sri Kumaran Educational and Charitable Trust in Chennai to start a new engineering college in the name of Kumaran Institute of Technology in Villivakkam for the academic year 2011-12.Justice P Jyothimani gave the direction on June 14 last while disposing of a writ petition from the trust seeking to quash the orders dated April 23 and May 2 last of the southern regional office of the AICTE.Accepting the arguments of senior advocate K Doraisamy, the judge directed the authorities concerned to consider within four weeks the representation dated January 12, 2009 and February 11, 2011 of the trust for purpose of granting building plan approval as well as re-classification of land and pass orders on merits and in accordance with law. On the basis of the order that would be passed by the CMDA and the director of town planning, the AICTE should pass appropriate orders on the application dated May 5 last of the petitioner on merits and in accordance with law within three weeks thereafter, the judge added.Doraisamy also obtained a similar order in respect of the Cherraan Foundation in Coimbatore, which wanted to start the Cherraan College of Technology in the Kangeyam taluk.
