TUMKUR: Governor Hans Raj Bhardwaj said he has set aside the government’s proposal on appointing the Lokayukta since the leader of Opposition had expressed a difference of opinion.Meanwhile, criticising the transfer of Lokayukta ADGP Jeevan Gaonkar, the Governor said there was something amiss in the system.Bhardwaj told reporters after taking part in the 5th annual convocation of Tumkur University on Friday, “Appointing the Lokayukta should be a participatory process involving the Opposition party and the consultation of the High Court Chief Justice.But the government has proposed a name which the leader of Opposition is opposed to,” he clarified.While referring to Shivaraj Patil who resigned after being appointed Lokayukta, the Governor claimed that since the proposal was proper, he gave his nod without a second thought.“The proposal came to me at 9 am and I cleared it in 2 minutes at 9.2 am,” he remarked.He regretted that Shivaraj Patil and Gururaj resigned over a “created” controversy and his efforts to persuade them not to do so failed.The appointment of the Lokayukta has been politicised, making a mockery of an institution of integrity, he observed.He said he had suggested to the Chief Minister to find a person of integrity, probity and someone who enjoys confidence.
