ALUVA: The government order to include training period of police personnel in their service will be implemented soon, Excise Minister K Babu has said.He was inaugurating a public meeting to conclude the Ernakulam Rural District Convention of the Kerala Police Officers Association (KPOA) here on Monday.Calling upon the police officers to keep away from all vices and irregularities as part of its image-building exercise, he said even the smallest mistake of the police is projected as a major crime by the public. It could tarnish the image of the entire police force.The Minister said that the government was aware of the expenses incurred by the police personnel to investigate serious crimes. He assured that the government would take action in this regard.Presiding over the meeting, KPOA district president K G Babukumar said that cyber-related crimes were on the rise. “In developed countries, the police are given modern techniques to investigate such cases. The state police, too, should be trained in advanced technologies to deal with criminals successfully and expeditiously,” he said.He added that a special fund should be entrusted with the SP in each district for investigation of major crimes, without waiting for funds from the police headquarters or utilising investigating officers’ money.Among those who spoke on the ocassion were Anwar Sadath, MLA; Municipal chairman M T Jacob; NGO Union district secretary N Krishna Prasad; KPOA state committee member P J David; district secretary T R Lalan; district president T S Sunny and reception committee chairman K A Prathapan.National Award-winning actor Salim Kumar was honoured in the function.
