New Delhi: A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel has been detained for allegedly firing at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) office in New Delhi. The CRPF personnel, identified as Shamshad Ali, reportedly fired 20 rounds at the BJP headquarters in Ashoka Road at about 11 PM on Sunday.

He was posted as a guard at the BJP headquarters. The Parliament Street Police Station is likely to file an FIR in the firing case.

The security personnel was apparently peeved at not being granted leave.

Ali, who is in his late twenties, allegedly fired in the air emptying the magazine of his SLR rifle. Nobody was injured in the incident. Soon after the incident, he was overpowered and senior officials of the CRPF rushed to the spot.

Ali told the officials that he was unhappy as he was not granted leave to go home to address some domestic issue.

However, a top CRPF official said he was granted leave in January and March this year.
