- Remain indoors, unless an evacuation is ordered by local authorities

- Clear away loose material that could fly around and cause injury during extreme winds

- Close all windows and doors securely

- In case of flooding, keep a route planned to the nearest safe high ground

- Turn off power, gas and water connections, disconnect all appliances

- Keep an emergency kit handy including clothes, torch, batteries, essential food, water and first aid kit

- Ensure household members know the strongest part of the house where they can take shelter

- Check if your neighbours are also well prepared
