BHUBANESWAR: The State Government on Friday said it will take a decision on the nature of Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) counselling process in three days.Chief Secretary BK Patnaik convened a meeting attended by members of JEE Committee and private engineering colleges. The meeting discussed in details the pros and cons of the web-based counselling, which was introduced last year, but  is facing opposition currently. Similarly, the centralised e-counselling, which is being proposed to replace the web-based counselling, was also debated. The chief secretary will take a call on the matter in three days and announce the mode of counselling.Vice-Chairman of JEE Committee Dr Sitaram Mohapatra said the counselling will start by July second week and will be wrapped up in August so that academic session can start from September 1.The Orissa Private Engineering Colleges’ Association (OPECA) submitted that it was not opposed to the web-based counselling. It has several loopholes in terms of problems in selection of colleges and adjustment of seats over quota. “If the Government can sort out these problems, then we have no problem with the web-based counselling process,” secretary Binod Dash said. The Association has suggested that the Government can go for de-centralised e-counselling over the centralised e-counselling as the former will benefit the students. It has also sought constitution of a JEE Cell which will function round the year. The term of the existing JEE committees cease once counselling is over and admission process starts. However, colleges have complained that they have no platform to air their grievances in absence of a body. The OPECA has called for completing the counselling by July 30 and is hopeful that in the current academic session, seats will be filled up.Last year, the counselling exercise had drawn well close to the end of the calendar year. Such long drawn-out process poses problems for the students and takes a toll on the academic process, it said.
