New Delhi: The Delhi government has ordered a magisterial probe into the death of the 19-year-old girl who was stabbed 35 times for resisting sexual harassment.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had on Friday blamed the Central government for poor security and said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should review the security situation in Delhi every week.

Kejriwal had tweeted saying that the PM must spare time to assess law and order in the national capital, as Delhi Police comes under his jurisdiction. "This is shocking. Delhi police directly under PM. PM shud spare a few hrs every week to assess capital's law n order position," he tweeted.

The teenager was stabbed 35 times after standing up against eve teasers. Delhi Police has arrested an accused who was the girl's neighbour and charged him with murder.

In 2013, the victim had filed a molestation complaint against the accused and his brother. On Thursday, she stepped out to the local market in Delhi's Anand Parbat area when the accused confronted her. After a fight, he allegedly stabbed the girl due to which she died on the spot.

An eyewitness said that the girl used to be harassed a lot by the brothers. "The girl ran from the attackers and entered my building. The men followed her and continued to stab her. They used to harass her a lot," an eyewitness said.

The victim's sister has claimed that despite seeing what was happening, the neighbours did not help her. "She could've been saved if they helped her. She entered a neighbour's house as she was getting beaten. The neighbours' whose house she entered, threw her out of their house, saying that they did not want to get involved in the matter. That is why they (the accused) got to assault her and they ran away after that," the victim's sister said.
