HYDERABAD: Deloitte company plans to set up a screen printing unit in the Cherlapally central jail to train the inmates in software skills. The unit may be installed in a week. There is already a bakery unit on the prison premises. There are about 2,000 inmates in the jail working in different units like furniture, dying, soap-making, tailoring, weaving and candle-making units.  These units train the inmates in survival skills so that they can make money to run their family when they are released, said KC Srinivasa Rao, superintendent of the Cherlapally Central Prison.A team from Deloitte company visited the prison recently and presented them soap boxes, drinking glasses and other e items. It also installed an oven worth Rs 1 lakh in the bakery unit.  Deloitte has provided 15 computers and 8 laptops last year to train some enthusiastic and educated prisoners and selected them in work in the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) centre in the prison.  The IT training will give them a certain edge and enable them to earn their livelihood.  It will be both productive and economically beneficial to them both inside and outside the prison.Inmates earn about Rs 900 to 1,500 per month by working in these units. Half of their salary would go into their bank account and the rest would be given to them. The money in their account would be given to them when they are released.  Prisoners are given only tokens in the denomination of Rs 5, 10 and 20. They have to use these tokens in the canteen and other places on the premises, Srinivasa Rao said.
