MS Dhoni's friendship with N Srinivasan seems to be growing stronger. The Indian team skipper has been named captain of the India Cements team - one which will play in the BCCI Corporate Trophy tournament and he is also captain of IPL team Chennai Super Kings (both teams owned by Srinivasan). And yes, Srinivasan is the BCCI President as well.
But, as Pune Mirror article reports, he is now also vice president of Srinivasan's company India Cements. So that means Dhoni has a prominent position in almost every organisation Srinivasan is involved in. He is captain of the Indian team, captain of the Chennai Super Kings, likely captain of the India Cements cricket team and also vice president of India Cements. Jagmohan Dalmiya and Sourav Ganguly were close but this... is a little too much.
While the rest of Team India will look forward to a small break from cricket before playing Australia, the skipper won't be getting one since he may be playing the 50-over corporate tournament from 1 February onwards.
Sixteen teams have been divided into four groups of four each. Each team will play the other three in its group. The most successful team from each group (in terms of points) will qualify for the semi-finals.
Indore, Pune, Nagpur and Raipur will host the league games, from 1 February 2013 to 4 February 2013. The semi-finals will be played on 6 February 2013 at Raipur and Indore. Indore will host the final on 8 February 2013.
An India Cements official was quoted in the Mirror report as saying: "We don't know if he will play, but he is our employee and is part of the squad." If Dhoni doesn't lead the India Cements team, it is likely to be led by R Ashwin.
Incidentally, it was Dhoni who had suggested earlier that he wouldn't make himself available for the Irani Trophy, wanting to "make the most of the break." It will be pretty intriguing to see whether he turns up for India Cements though.
