CHENNAI: Diabetologist Dr V Mohan, who was recently honoured with the Padma Shri, was felicitated for his contribution to the speciality. Experts from the field of medicine took part in the event organised by the directors and staff of Dr Mohan’s Group of Diabetes Institutions. Speaking at the function, scientist and Member of Parliament M S Swaminathan said that the doctor not only treated diabetics, but also contributed much to research and education in the field. “He’s conscientious about developing low cost methods that have benefited many people across the country,” the scientist said. Presiding over the function, Nawab Mohammed Abdul Ali, Prince of Arcot, recalled his long association with Dr Mohan's family and heaped accolades on the doctor.While M S Swaminathan released a compilation of Dr Mohan’s 700 scientific publications, the Prince of Arcot released a book containing a collection of poems written by the doctor during his undergraduate days. The annual report of the Madras Diabetes Research Foundation for the year 2010-2011 was also released at the event by Dr G Balakrish Nair, executive director, Translational Health Science and Technology Institute, New Delhi.
