BANGALORE: Residents commuting to or living near Outer Ring Road (Bangalore East) should look out for traffic diversion boards from Monday. The police have given Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) the go ahead to start pipe laying work at major junctions, but with conditions in fine print to limit inconvenience to minimum for road users.
The BWSSB is racing ahead to complete the works under Cauvery IV phase II stage in order to the meet the December deadline. But, the pipelaying work on a 50 kilometre stretch between Vajarahalli and HBR layout to reach Narayanapura ground water reservoir is intermittent with several stretches completed and several stretches on hold awaiting permission from other agencies such as Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) and the Traffic Police.A team comprising Urban Development Minister S Suresh Kumar, BWSSB Chairman P B Ramamurthy, Chief Engineer (Cauvery Water Supply Scheme) Narayan and representatives from BDA and the police force inspected the work stretch between Narayanapura and Sarjapura on Saturday and divided the space and time among themselves to complete the project.

Police said that the traffic in several stretches of the road is already affected due to one underpass work and three flyover works taken up in the area and more work would inconvenience the commuters. But, BWSSB officials assured them that work between Marathahalli junction to Kuvempu Circle would be taken up at night in small stretches and would be made motorable by morning.

The stretch between Kadubeesanahalli and Agara junction, where BDA is working on a signal free corridor, is more problematic to tackle as the traffic is already moving on service roads and narrow stretches. But, a plan is charted out where the work would would be taken up in small stretches.

The minister also spoke to the head of Lake Development Authority (LDA) U V Singh to give permission to BWSSB to lay pipeline on the side of Mahadevapura lake extending to 600 meters.
