Eid-ul-Fitr was on Tuesday celebrated with traditional fervour across Uttarakhand as Muslims offered prayers at different mosques and idgahs in the state.

In Muslim-dominated areas of Haridwar, Udhamsingh Nagar and Nainital districts, the festive spirit was palpable with people of all age groups embracing each other to exchange Eid greetings and feasting on sweets and other delicacies to celebrate the occasion.

A host of distinguished people, including Chief Minister Harish Rawat, state Assembly Speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal and Chief Secretary Subhash Kumar called on Governor Aziz Qureshi at Raj Bhawan to greet him on the occasion.

In his appeal to people on the occasion, Qureshi asked them to take a vow to foster the spirit of amity among different communities which is a prerequisite for the development of any society. The Governor offered 'namaz' at a mosque on EC Road in the city and warned people against the designs of forces out to create hatred among people of different religions.
