CHENNAI: DMK chief M Karunanidhi on Tuesday conceded that any party functionary found guilty of land grab charges would have to face the long arm of the law. His comment comes just days after he had claimed that the cases being filed against his partymen were fallacious. “Partymen are explaining their situations to me. I am also learning about them with the help of lawyers. If anyone has in fact grabbed land then they will indeed be liable to legal action,” said Karunanidhi, when asked about the fact that the government had received close to 1,500 complaints of land grabbing by DMK functionaries.Karunanidhi ducked questions over whether the principal opposition party, the DMDK, was functioning properly, saying it did not matter whether the DMK was the opposition party or not. It only mattered that it worked for the people, he claimed. He also sidestepped questions on his recent meeting with senior Congress leader Pranab Mukherjee. “I will speak about that after the DMK general council meeting, where we will go over what was discussed and what was decided. I did not ask for a replacement for our berth in the Cabinet,” Karunanidhi insisted.
