Madurai: Tamil Nadu government on Tuesday told the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court that establishment of Lokayukta in the state was under its consideration.
A committee had been formed for the purpose and it was examining the concerned issues including drafting of the bill on Lokauyukta, Personnel and Administrative Reforms Department Undersecretary S Malathi informed the court.
Besides, the central government had proposed certain amendments to the Lokpal and Lokayukta Act-2013. The draft legislation would be suitably drafted and finalised soon, she submitted.
The court had earlier directed the government to file a counter on a PIL by B Stalin, an advocate, seeking to direct the state government to constitute Lokayukta within a stipulated period to deal with series of corruption and other complaints of malpractices against the state government.
The court directed the Union Ministry of Law and Justice to file its counter and posted the case for further hearing to February 26.
