Jharkhand Excise departments revenue generation is far less compared to other states and efforts should be made to increase the collection, Chief Secretary R S Sharma said on Saturday.
"To increase revenue collections, bringing in transparency and modernisation in the department s work is necessary," Sharma said during a review meeting of the Excise and Prohibition department.
There should be a study of measures taken by other states in revenue collection and accordingly work out an action plan to move in the direction of increasing revenue, a press release said quoting Sharma.
He also directed to take other steps like filling up vacancies in the department, taking steps in automatic permit system, forming new excise act, reforming in the working of Beverages Corporation and availability of vehicles.
Stressing an amendment to the act of the department formed in 1915, Sharma asked the officials concerned to study acts of other states and initiate steps in amending it, the release said.
Asking to make on-line the permit system, he advised to make concerted effort in improving revenue collection.
