KARIMNAGAR: A 62 year-old-person bitten by a dog, a fortnight ago, died of rabies on Tuesday. This is the first rabies death reported from the district.Despite being administered anti-rabies vaccine thrice, he developed symptoms of rabies and succumbed to the disease.The victim, Rajaiah, a native of Akenapalli in Ramagundam mandal, was bitten by a stray dog in the village 15 days ago. His family members soon rushed him to the nearest PHC.But as Rajaiah began showing symptoms of rabies and behaving like a dog, his family members rushed him to Godavarikhani area hospital on Tuesday. However, with no proper medicines available there, doctors at Godavarikhani asked his relatives to take Rajaiah to Karimnagar hospital.And doctors at Karimnagar hospital too advised Rajaiah’s family to take him to MGM in Warangal as there was no good medicine with them.In such a helpless situation, Rajaiah’s family members shifted him to their native village Akenapalli where he succumbed to the disease.However, with news about Rajaiah’s condition being flashed on TV news channels, doctors tried to shift him to Karimnagar.
