Owners of a popular sports-theme restaurant in US were shocked to discover a foetus in the women's restroom when the toilet refused to flush properly.

The gruesome finding was made in the ladies' restroom at the Starters Pub in Lower Saucon Township, Northampton County in Pennsylvania. On Monday, after scrubbing the bowl of one of the toilets, one of the cleaners attempted to flush the soapy water down, said Starters owner David Rank who manages the establishment along with his wife. When the toilet didn't flush, the employee opened the lid of the tank and came across the foetus, Rank said.

Shortly after the discovery, Lower Saucon police and the Northampton County coroner's office were dispatched to the restaurant. Investigators said they are treating the disposal of the foetus as a crime, 'New York Daily News' reported. Police has interviewed employees and also looked at surveillance footage in an attempt to identify the mother.

It is not yet known what the gestation stage of the foetus was, but according to The Morning Call, police said they would release those details once the coroner's investigation was complete.
