KOCHI: The district administration is all set to build a foot overbridge (FoB) on the right side of the North railway overbridge as a part of its renovation works. District Collector P I Sheik Pareeth told that the process to acquire the land for the same had been completed. “The district administration has held talks with the owners of the land and they have agreed to the proposal. The works in this regard will commence in a week,” the Collector said. The width of the FoB will be about three metres. Besides the FoB there will be two 4.5 metre wide service roads on either side of the main road. Both these works will be carried out by the Kochi Metro Rail Limited. The Collector said that in connection with the RoB renovation, the government has also given nod for the widening work of the MG Road and the Banerjee Road. “Land has to be acquired on the Banerjee Road. Some of the shopping complexes on the Banerjee Road will be demolished while those on the MG road will remain intact,” he said. The Collector who reviewed the ongoing works of the North RoB asked the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) to speed up the works of removing the 66 KV cables. He has informed that an approval has been obtained from both the railway board and the safety commissioner to demolish the span right above the railway tracks. Sheik Pareeth told that the authorities hope to complete the reconstruction work of the RoB before the stipulated time of eighteen months. “Though the time span to complete the works is eighteen months, we are trying our level best to complete it within fourteen months,” Collector has said. The people are responding positively to the traffic diversions, he added.
