Ghaziabad local arrested for extortion, fraud
A resident of the Kavi Nagar area in Ghaziabad has been arrested for allegedly taking money from government officials and police personnel to get them transfers of their choice.

A resident of the Kavi Nagar area in Ghaziabad has been arrested for allegedly taking money from government officials and police personnel to get them transfers of their choice.

An Uttar Pradesh constable, too, has been arrested in connection with the case. Police said that this accused used to extort money from station house officers.

The accused have been identified as Kavi Nagar resident Satish Kumar and Vivek Rana, a constable deployed at the SSP's office in Ghaziabad.

"Kumar is a member of AAP. Police have recovered an AAP membership slip (No. 1628902) from him.

"He has so far achieved 100 transfers of police officers by calling up their seniors and posing as a senior police officer or a judge," said Ghaziabad SSP, Dharmendra Singh.

Adding that Kumar would also extort money from police officers, Singh said that the accused had called up Vijay Nagar Station House Officer Hardayal Singh on December 1, 2013, posing as the Additional Director General and asked for money.

"He told the SHO that if he didn't give money, he would be sacked from his post. Sensing something wrong, the SHO filed a written complaint against the caller and the matter was handed over to crime branch... Kumar was arrested last night from Meerut Road," Singh said.

Four police officers - Sub-Inspector Satish Chand Tyagi, head constable Vishaw Prakash Pandey, and constables Rajpal Singh and Mahendra Nagar - have been suspended in connection with the case, Singh added.
