Government to take over organic seed farm

The state government will take over the organic seed farm in Aluva, said Agriculture Minister K P Mohanan. “An amount of Rs 5 crore will be allocated for the development of the organic seed farm,” he said.

It aims to increase the production of organic seeds. The minister said that, to augment the activities in this regard, electricity will be produced using solar panels.   

Recently, the organic seed farm in Thuruthu, Aluva, gained international recognition, being the only organic seed farm in the country. The organic seed farm and its training centre is managed by the district panchayat. Preparations are on to boost farm tourism. Procedures have been initiated to construct a boat jetty.
