Guwahati: 2 injured in grenade blast outside bank
There were not many people at the blast site due to the nation-wide trade union strike.

Guwahati: At least two people have been injured in a grenade blast in Guwahati. The blast took place near Zoo Road outside a branch of Punjab National Bank in Guwahati at around 6:20 PM.

Eyewitnesses claimed that the grenade was thrown from a Tata Safari. The injured have been taken to the hospital.

Police have cordoned off the area and have started their investigations. The Union Home Ministry said that preliminary reports suggest that the grenade was abandoned in panic by the attackers.

There was heavy police checking following intelligence inputs about United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) planning to carry out an attack, Home Ministry officials said.

High alert has been declared in Guwahati following the blast. All entry and exit routes have been put under surveillance. Police officials say is it too early to comment on who is responsible for the blast.
