New Delhi: Delhi High Court suspended a lower court's conviction of former bureaucrat Runu Ghosh on corruption charges on Thursday and granted her bail.

Runu Ghosh was sentenced to three years' imprisonment for amassing disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs 20.94 lakh during the tenure of former union minister Sukh Ram.

Justice VK Shali granted Runu Ghosh - who had been on interim bail after her conviction - regular bail on personal and surety bond of Rs 50,000 each.

On May 15, a court had sentenced her to three years' imprisonment, a fine of Rs 1 lakh and had ordered confiscation of her illegal wealth.

The court had said that she has acquired the assets between November 1, 1992 and August 16, 1996 while serving as deputy director general in the telecom department.

A raid by the Central Bureau of Investigation in her house on August 16, 1996 had revealed disproportionate assets and cash worth Rs 4 lakh.
