New Delhi: The Haryana whistleblower IAS officer who wrote a tell-all letter to the state Chief Secretary revealing the land scams going on across the state on Sunday told CNN-IBN that the Indian political system was such that an honest officer would feel like a rape victim who, in India, is often blamed for the crime.
"India is not a banana republic... There are scoundrels in the system. And you get transferred. Your peers and seniors.. everybody points an accusing finger at you, saying 'We told you so'. It is like a girl who is raped by scoundrels and the society points the finger at her and tells her, 'Look the fault lies in you'," said senior IAS officer Ashok Khemka. "The unfortunate part is that the laws were framed with noble objectives but there are scoundrals in the system, who misuse them," he added.
Khemka has further demanded investigation into his charges. "I would personally like that a clarification is done after an open investigation and enquiry so that the people's faith in the government of the day is restored," he said.
On Saturday, in a tell-all letter to the Haryana Chief Secretary, Khemka detailed all the ongoing land scams in the state and urged him to take adequate action. He also demanded adequate security for himself and his family. In the letter, Khemka alleged that several hundred crores worth of plots of Panchayat land were transferred to real estate firms. The letter explained how prime plots near highways were sold off under the garb of consolidation. The panchayat lands were deliberately under-valued, the letter added.
