Junior doctors launched a strike on Monday against the mandatory rural service.
They boycotted emergency services and with the house surgeons also expressing their solidarity, medical services in the Kurnool government hospital were hit.
Around 120 PG students provide medical services in Kurnool General Hospital associated with the Kurnool Medical College.
There are 150 house surgeons in the hospital.
With junior doctors and house surgeons boyocotting duties, patients from Kurnool, Anantapur, Kadapa, Prakasam, Bellary and Mahbubnagar districts, who visited the hospital, faced inconvenience.
Many of them were rushed to private hospitals for treatment.
The Kurnool hospital has 2,000 in-patients and 1,000 out-patients on any given day.
Patients in the casualty ward, paediatric ward, super specaility block, and AMC blocks were the worst hit due to the strike.
GOVERNMENT RULE: The state government has made three years of rural service mandatory for all students pursuing medical courses under GO No.
40 -- Tribal Rural Regeneration Integrated Programme (TRRIP).
They have to do service in rural areas for one year after MBBS
