BANGALORE: With the sudden death of Higher Education Minister, V S Acharya, the question of bifurcation of Bangalore University (BU) has come to the forefront. It is a known fact that the late Acharya had strongly supported the bifurcation, even as the Vice-Chancellor, N Prabhu Dev opposed the idea.Governor H R Bharadwaj, who is also the Chancellor of BU, finally spoke out about the impending question of the division of the university.Shockingly the Governor has denied having any role to play in the matter, leaving the city’s educationists baffled.“I do not deal with bifurcation of the university. The Government has to deal with this matter,” he said. He further warded off any questions on the matter, claiming that the VC should respond to all such queries.Taken aback by the governor’s statement, Vice-Chancellor N Prabhu Dev told Express that he would reserve his comments on the matter. “I do not know anything about the bifurcation so I have nothing to say,” he said. After getting a green signal for bifurcating the university from CM DV Sadananda Gowda, Acharya was keen to go ahead with the process, only to face opposition from Prabhu Dev.
