THIRUVANATHAPURAM: This boy who has his roots in Kilimanoor in the district has made it big. Anand K, son of K Asha Devi, who belongs to Kilimanoor, has found a place in the first 50 ranks of the IIT-Joint Entrance Examinations (IIT-JEE), the results of which were announced on Wednesday.The feat achieved by Anand is creditable indeed as he is ranked 47 in IIT-JEE, which is the entry point for admissions to various courses in the 15 IITs, IT-BHU and ISM Dhanbad. Moreover, he is ranked first in the Kharagpur zone.This year, IIT-Kanpur was the nodal agency for conducting the Joint Entrance Exam. A total of 4,68,240 candidates appeared for JEE-2011, out of which 13,602 candidates have been declared qualified to seek admission for the 9,618 seats in the IITs.The achievement becomes even more commendable as the number of candidates who get admitted to the IITs from the State is very small. During some years, it was in single digits.Anand is now living in Bacheli in Chattisgarh. His father N K Namboothiri belongs to Vadakkathu Illam of Mavelikkara. He is a senior manager with National Mineral Development Corporation there. Anand’s father also has an engineering background - he is an electrical engineer."Anand also wants to become an electrical engineer,’’ Anand’s uncle Anil Kumar told City Express.Anand’s mother Ashadevi, a housewife, is a member of Palakkavu Madom of Pappala, near Killimanoor.Anil Kumar said that Anand is very much interested in western music. He is also a good painter. Anand hopes to get admission to IIT, Mumbai, Anil Kumar said.Anand did his schooling at Delhi Public School (DPS), Bhilai. DPS, Bhilai, is one of the satellite schools in the chain of schools run by the Delhi Public School Society, New Delhi, a non-profit organisation dedicated to the cause of quality education in India and abroad.
